TREATMENT OF HEPATIC TUMOURS BY RADIOFREQUENCY (RFA)

Introduction:

It is an alternative treatment for inoperable hepatic tumours, hepatic metastases by number and/or localisation of the lesions.

Material and Methods:

RFA is a thermic treatment that destroys the tumour at higher temperatures than 50C.

The Levee electrodes- needles are introduced in the tumour, starting the destruction with 50w and increasing 10w every minute up to a maximum of 90w.

Indications:

It is indicated for patients with primary hepatic tumour or hepatic metastases, histologically confirmed and non surgical, and for patients with no clinic and/or radiologic evidence of extra hepatic illness.
